Late Sd.Karam Singh Bhogal
Sd. Karam Singh Bhogal was born to Smt. Bhagwan Kaur in July, 1905 at Shimla. He did his primary education from Shimla but had to leave his studies after his fathers death. Yet stayed undeterred and determined to face life. He had to leave his birth place, leaving behind the rich setup he was born in.
In Calcutta, he worked as cleaner/helper. One day having tea at a dhaba (roadside restaurant) near the Police Commissioner's house. The vendor told him, a driver was needed at the commissioner's house. His self confidence and obligation toward life made him grab this opportunity by lying that he knows to drive. Due to his bold nature, he got a chance for driving test. He had never driven before, so while reversing the car, he bumped into the plants by mistake. The child in him got disheartened and scared to face this. It was when, he had to drive the pregnant wife of commissioner to the station, unknowingly he was sluggishly winding the car and got appreciation for driving extra carefully. This unexpected prizing uplifted his confidence to work harder.
At the age of 14 years, he got married to Smt. Kartar Kaur D/o. Sd. Hari Singh (Renowned contractor of Jabalpur, M.P.). He got training in the field of electricity, and served in the department of electricity board, Jabalpur, Madhya Pardesh.
Started working as a government contractor in Jabalpur. Due to family rifts, he had to leave Jabalpur leaving behind all his earnings and receivables. He was penniless and returned to his native village Bhilowal near Hoshiarpur in Punjab, 1930. But fate beckoned him and he shifted to Ludhiana in 1938. Rest of the family followed him to Ludhiana in 1939.
